Transcription 9the ffebruary <u>1636</u> ''9the ffebruary <u>1636</u> '''8.s''' nave the}<br /> ''Hope''} '''E: Brey''' '''Christopher Vennard''' of Ratcliffe Mariner<br /> Late Master of the shipp called the ''Hope'' of Ipswich<br /> sworne before Mr Doctor Sammes Surrogate et cetera sayeth<br /> and deposeth uppon his oath That Bartholmew [?StXXX]<br /> one of the Carpenters of the said shippe the ''Hope''<br /> was shipt into that shippe by Richard Gurlinge<br /> deceased the then Master of the said shippe at<br /> Ipswich at or before the first day of<br /> May 1634 and served in her untill about the<br /> last day of ffebruary then next followeinge<br /> and then by the consent of the said Gurlinge at the<br /> Barbathos went to worke aboard of a small<br /> Pinnace which ws blowne off from that Island<br /> by extremity of weather, and since that tyme<br /> hee never saw the said Pinnace nor any of her<br /> Company, but for what wages Gourlinge shipte<br /> the said [?SXX terme] or what hee received twoards<br /> the same hee knoweth not, for that there was not<br /> any [?qurt] on his wages paid since this<br /> examinate came to bee Master of the said shippe<br /> And hee sfurther sayeth that the accompte<br /> now by him given into the Registry of this<br /> Court under his hande, is a true accompte<br /> of the freight that was or is due for the said shipp [?XXXX]<br /> hee came to bee Master of her, and the<br /> same was paid out and allowed as in that<br /> accompte is expressed, And this hee<br /> affirmeth uppon his oath to bee true:<br /> Alsoe hee sayeth That Thomas Beacon<br /> Gunner of the said shipp dyed in her about the<br /> Last day of June [?XXXX], and served in her<br /> three and twenty monethes before little more or lesse, and since the shippe<br /> came to London this examinate repaid to his widdow in<br /> part of his the said Beacons wages twelve<br /> pounds five shillings, but whether hee received<br /> any thinge before of Gourlinge this [?hee]<br /> cannot expresse, nor cann hee expresse<br /> for what wages hee was shipt, but conceiveth<br /> that hee well deserved five ad thirty shillings<br /> sterling a moneth for his service in the said<br /> shipp and voyage, And this hee affirmeth<br /> uppon his oath to bee true;/ per: me Christopher Vennard [SIGNATURE, RH SIDE]e Christopher Vennard [SIGNATURE, RH SIDE]  +
