Transcription On the same day Examined on the said AllegOn the same day Examined on the said Allegation,/ '''Rp. 2us.''' '''Thomas Pickett''' of Poole in the County of dorsett<br /> Marriner aged 33 or thereabouts sworne and Examined deposeth<br /> as followeth./ To the first article hee saith that for and dureing all the time arlate<br /> the said George Scutt the elder George Scutt and Company were and att<br /> this present ought to bee the true and lawfull owners and proprietors<br /> of the Shipp the ''Jane and Elizabeth'' arlate and of her tackle apparell<br /> and furniture, And so repured taken and generally knowne which hee deposeth<br /> for that hee this deponent was one of the said shipps Company for all<br /> the time aforesaid, and ffor tenn yeares last past att the least And further<br /> hee cannot depose. To the second article hee saith and deposeth that within the time arlate [?that GUTTER]<br /> the said George Scutt the elder George Scutt and Company did sett out<br /> and imploy the said shipp the ''Jane and Elizabeth'' from the Port of Poole<br /> arlate on a fishing voyage to Newfound land and so to returne againe<br /> for England And hee saith that the said shipp did safely arrive att<br /> Newfound land, and there tooke in her lading of ffish and oyle for the [?Account GUTTER]<br /> of the said George Scutt the elder George Scutt and Company aforesaid which hee<br /> knoweth for that hee went out in the said shipp the said voyage and was one<br /> of the Company of her as aforesaid And further hee cannot depose./ To the third hee saith and deposeth that after such time as the shipp the<br /> ''Jane and Elizabeth'' had received and taken in the said lading of ffish<br /> and oyle att Newfound land as aforesaid she did sett saile there with and<br /> was bound for Poole But in her passage thither, he saith the said shipp<br /> and her lading was mett with, nere about Michaelmas last within<br /> the time arlate, by a Jersey man of warr, and she and her lading<br /> surprized taken and Carried into Jersey where they doe nowe<br /> remaine, which hee knoweth for that hee was then taken out of the<br /> said shipp and sett on shore in Portland, And further referring<br /> himselfe to his depositions hereafter expressed hee saith hee cannot depose. To the 4th and 5th articles of the said allegation hee saith that att such time<br /> as the said shipp the ''Jane and Elizabeth'' did depart and sett saile from<br /> Poole to Newfound land and att such time as shee was surprized and<br /> taken and carried into Jersey the arlate Roger Baker was Master and<br /> Comander thereof, and had the care and chardge of her And as<br /> Master and Comander thereof as aforesaid (and for many yeares before<br /> hee was soe accompted reputed and taken, And further this deponent saith<br /> that the said Baker is nowe att Jersey, and hath certified from<br /> thence unto the said George Scutt the Elder George Scutt and Company<br /> and divers others by letters and otherwise that the said shipp the ''Jane''<br /> and her lading so by them lost and carried into Jersey as aforesaid<br /> is there now remaineing, which is so publiquely spoaken (and made knowne<br /> to bee) att Poole and other places, Which hee knoweth for that divers<br /> Marriners of Poole who lately transported souldiers in a man of warr<br /> to Jersey have (upon theire returne from Jersey to Poole) tould this deponent<br /> and others that they spo[?a]ke with the said Baker in Jersey, and hee tould them<br /> that the said shipp and lading were in Jersey, for hee had often seene her<br /> but could not come att her And otherwise referring himself to his<br /> foresaid depositions hee saith hee cannot depose.
