To the fifth hee saith that the said vessell the ''Jacob'' came from<br />
Roane when shee went to Newcastle aforesaid, and saith that all<br />
the shipps company are hamburgers and were there hired and are to<br />
receive their wages of the said Skipper.
To the sixth hee saith that the said Skipper was to sell and dispose of<br />
the said lading of coales at Roane for the said owners accompt. And otherwise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid.

Against the ''Saint John'' aforesaid.
'''Hendrick Meulman''' of hambourgh Mariner<br />
Stiersman of the said shipp the ''Saint John'' aged<br />
31 yeares or thereabouts, sworne and examined.
To the first and second articles hee saith and deposeth that the vessell the
''Saint John'' aforesaid was taken and rescued by Captaine Clarke<br />
aforesaid not farr from haver da Grace on or about the seaventh day<br />
of this instant moneth of August 1651, about two of the clock in the<br />
agternoone at which time shee had aboard her, her lading of coals<br />
which were taken in at Newcastle and had noe other Marchandizes i<br />
her, nor any money, great guns, armes or ammunition, and saith shee<br />
was carrying the said coales for Roane, there to be sold for the accompt<br />
of the owners of the shipp who were and are [?lewes] da Boys, h[XXXX]<br />
hopp, Martin B[?owerburgh] and his precontest the Skipper, all<br />
hamburghers, there resident, and subiects of that State, and that hee<br />
this examinate hath noe part or share therein. And saith that the said vessell belongeth to the said port of hamborowe and was built<br />
at Embden, and [?that] to the time of the said Rescuse the said vessell<br />
was in the possession of a pirate or Irish man of warr who had<br />
taken her about nine of the clock the fore said day, and having taken<br />
the skipper and some of his company out of her, and keeping the rest<br />
aboard as prisoners, hee was endeavouring to carry her for<br />
Jersey with her lading, which hee knoweth being Stiersman of her<br />
and aboard her when shee was soe taken and otherwise hee cannot<br />
depose.
To the third hee saith that it was in the power of the said pirate<br />
to have carried away the said shipp and lading in case Captaine<br />
Clarke had not gonne up and rescued the same as aforesaid,<br />
And otherwise hee cannot depose saving his foregoeing deposition.
To the last hee saith hee cannot depose.
