Transcription [IMAGE FAILED TO LOAD IN SCRIPTO] To the [IMAGE FAILED TO LOAD IN SCRIPTO] To the third hee saith that the said shipp the ''hope'' in prosecution of her<br /> voyage for haver da Grace, was met with and seized by Captaine Johnson<br /> and company off Cap[X] da [?hXXXX] [?on ?or about] the tenth of July last<br /> newe stile, and with her said lading brought [?hence] by her to<br /> Portsmouth, which hee knoweth being Skipper of and [?then] on board<br /> the said shipp the ''hope'', when shee was soe seized, And otherwise<br /> hee cannot depose. To the fourth hee saith and deposeth that at the time of the said<br /> seizure there was a Charter parti[?a] aboard the said shipp wherein it was<br /> said that the said shipp was freighted to carry the corne to Amsterdam<br /> from [XXXX] for the accompt of the arlate Jacob C[?opp], and a bill of<br /> lading for the receipt thereof and for delivering the same accordingly, which<br /> this deponent delivered with his other papers and pass[?engers] to the<br /> said Captaine Johnson with his owne hand, but hee saith that the<br /> said [XXX] Charter parti{?a] and bill were meerly colourably made<br /> and were not reall and true. And saith the said Captaine<br /> John [?SXXX[ [XXXXXX] after and upon the said seizure had and tooke from this deponent<br /> in ffrench, English and Portuguese money to the summe and valewe of<br /> 35 li sterlinge, accompting tenn livers ffrench to a pound sterling [?English]<br /> and having seized and taken away the same out of this deponents<br /> cabbin in his shipp the said Lieutenant went aboard the said Interrogated<br /> man of warr and carried this deponent with him, and [?at] this deponents<br /> [XXXXX] shpwed the bagg wherein the said money was to the said<br /> Captaine Johnson, and said here I have found money, and then [XXX]<br /> went ashore at Portsmouth to share it, And hee sasaith that his<br /> Steersman told him that the said Johnsons company upon the said<br /> seizure took [?above] [?10X] gilders from him, and other moneys from the<br /> company and divers of their clothes, which the said Johnson and<br /> company still detaine, And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the fifth hee saith hee [XXXX] that hee knoweth Jacob [?CopX] of Amsterdam by<br /> sight, and that hee the said Cop[X] was and is a subiect of the Lords<br /> the States of the United Netherland Provinces, betweene whom and<br /> this [XXX XXXXX] there was and is peace and amitie. To the last hee saith theat his foregoeing deposition was and is true. To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING] To the first hee saith hee cometh to testifie the truth, and was [?willed] by mr<br /> G[XXXt] to come and testifie in this [XXXXX], and saith hee gave noe order<br /> for this claime, and otherwise hee cannot answer. To the second hee saith hee expecteth noe benefit through the goods [XXX] [XXX]<br /> prize, and otherwise answereth negatively. To the third hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition and otherwise hee<br /> cannot answer. To the 4th hee answeareth negatively. To the fifth hee saith that the said ffrenchman that laded the said corne<br /> for his owne accompt as aforesaid was and is a subiect of the ffrench<br /> kinge by being an Inhabitant of Nantes as aforesaid, and otherwise hee<br /> cannot answer saveing his foregoeing deposition. To the sixth hee saith hee intended to goe with the said lading of corne<br /> to haver da Grace and there deliver the same for the said producents accompt<br /> in case hee had not bin met with and seized by the said Johnson. To the seaventh hee saith hee alsoe signed a Charter partie[?a] for the said<br /> corne to be delivered at haver da Grace for the said<br /> Merchants accompt, which was and is the true Charter partia[?a]. and was and<br /> and is put aboard the said shipp together with the said merchant laders<br /> letter[?s], and otherwise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid.ise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid.  +
