Transcription And saith the said Cogia Jacomo and CoagiaAnd saith the said Cogia Jacomo and Coagia Sefer live in Persia and<br /> were and are subiects of the Kinge of Persia, and the said Seroukan was<br /> and is an Inhabitant of Constantinople and a subiect and of the [XXXXXX]<br /> of the said Turkish Emperour, betwixt which Kinge of Persia and<br /> England and the said Emperour and England there was and is amitie<br /> and peace. And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the crosse Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING] To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee hath knowne Cogia Jacomo for the space<br /> of two yeares last and upwards, Cogia Saroukan about seaven or eight<br /> yeares, and Cogia Safer about five yeares, and that hee this deponent was<br /> and is a Persian native of the fore said citie of Spaham, and<br /> saith that the said Cogia Jacomo dwells in or neere the citie of R[?ivan] in<br /> Persia and was borne there, and the said Cogia Sefer was borne<br /> and liveth in Spah[?em] aforesaid, and the said Cogia Saroukan<br /> was borne in Constantinople aforesaid, and further saith that none<br /> of them are ffrench nor belonge to any ffrench factorie in<br /> Constantinople, Smyrna, or elswhere nor have any relation to the<br /> ffrench nor pay any tribute or owe any obedience to the ffrench<br /> kinge, but are free marchants for themselves, living in Persia<br /> and Constantinople as aforesaid, and otherwise saving his foregoing<br /> deposition hee cannot depose To the third hee saith that the said shipp the ''Saint Martin'' was and is<br /> a ffrench shipp and belongeth to some port in ffrance, and the<br /> said Captaine Andris who commnanded her at the time of her<br /> said seizure was and is a ffrenchman, and soe were her company<br /> saving five who were Venetians, and saith that all the goods abord<br /> the said shipp claimed by the said producents, this deponent and the<br /> other foure Armenians that are come along with them were<br /> and are their owne proper goods, and now wayes belonging to any<br /> ffrench or Inhabitant of ffrance, but whether there were any goods<br /> aboard the said shipp at the time of the said seizure belonging to<br /> ffrench or not, hee saith hee knoweth not. And otherwise hee<br /> cannot depose, saving his foregoeing deposition and saving the ?foresaid<br /> goods were consigned to be delivered at Ligorne to the<br /> said claimers themselves or their assignes. And otherwise hee cannot<br /> answer saving as aforesaid. To the fourth Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that hee hath noe share in the<br /> said shipp tackle or furniture, but hath goods aboard her mentioned in<br /> his bill of lading, but hath noe interest in the goods claimed in this<br /> cause, nor hath any relation to the said claimers or any of them p[XXXX]<br /> with them in regard of the said goods claimed, nor shall hee have any<br /> advantage or profitt though the said goods claimed be restored to the<br /> claimers aforesaid, And otherwise hee cannot answere. To the fifth Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that all the said goods [XXX]<br /> are of the Native Growth and manufacture of Persia of his knowledge<br /> being himselfe a Merchant well verst and acquainted with that kind<br /> of commodities and the places where they came and are made and<br /> albeit hee was not present at the buying thereof, yet hee is well<br /> assured that they were bought in Persia of Persians, because [XXXX]<br /> [XXXX] those commodities in that countrey but Persians, and saith<br /> at [?Guilan] in Persia whence the silkes in question doe come, it is the<br /> manner and fashion alwayes to buy them for ready money, [?such]<br /> commodities will not be received in truck therefore, In which regard<br /> merchants as XXX] thither to buy merchandizes carry alwayes ready<br /> thither with them, but for the goods in the two bills<br /> mentioned the one in Cogia Jacomos bill and the other in Cogia<br /> Safers bill [XXX] doth not know whether they were bought with ready<br /> money or upon truck for commodities, but hee well knoweth thatfor commodities, but hee well knoweth that  +
