Transcription to the said man of warre, who seized and&lto the said man of warre, who seized and<br /> surprized her and had her surrendred to them together<br /> with her loading in such manner and forme as is<br /> predeposed, All which said particulars these deponents say were<br /> transacted and done by the said Maplesden without<br /> the consent of any of his company and utterly against<br /> theire good will and likeinge, and without any resistance<br /> att all made Albeit theise deponents and the rest of the [?CXXX GUTTER]<br /> did earnestly desire the said Maplesden that they might<br /> defend the said ship the ''Lawrelll'' from the said ffrench man of<br /> warre and that they might shoote att and resist her when<br /> she came neare unto them. And further. these deponents<br /> say they cannot depose saveing that before the said Man of<br /> Warre came up to the ''Lawrell'' and upon his sending of his<br /> Company in his boat up to her who told the said Mapleseden<br /> what they were and whence theire ship was, hee the said Maplesden<br /> at theire request said hee would stay for the said man of warre till [XXXX GUTTER]<br /> and soe caused his said shippe the ''Lawrells'' Mayne saile and<br /> Sprittsaile to bee ffurled up and her top saile to bee [XXXed] up<br /> as if hee had soe thought good hee might without any danger<br /> or hazard made his Port before [?over] the said Man of warre<br /> could have come up to her. And the said Andrew P[XXXX GUTTER]<br /> for his part further deposeth That att such tyme as the Lieutenant of the<br /> said ffrench man of warre and the said Mr Maplesden had bin<br /> presente in the Round house of the ''Lawrell'' as aforesaid together and that the<br /> said Maplesden was goeing out of his ship abord the said Man<br /> of warre One Gilbert Stowe who was then Boatswaine of<br /> the said ship came unto the said Maplesden and in this deponents [?presence GUTTER]<br /> and heareing tooke him by the Arme and earnestly desired [?him GUTTER]<br /> not to leave his said ship nor to goe from abord her<br /> to which the said Maplesden replyed that what hee did was and<br /> would be for the food of them all, and soe notwithstanding[XXX GUTTER]<br /> perswasion left his owne ship and went abord the said man of [?warre GUTTER]<br /> from whence hee never returned while this deponent was<br /> there.
