Transcription To the 20th he saith the sayd shipp the ''To the 20th he saith the sayd shipp the ''harry Bonadventure'' was of the burthen<br /> of 350 tonnes or thereabouts and was compleatly fitted with rigging<br /> Anchors Cables masts yards and other necessary appurtenances and<br /> tackle and had 41 gunnes with tackle and furniture thereto requisit<br /> and powder sufficient for the use of her selfe, and likewise to furnish<br /> other shipps of this Commonwealth which she went to meet, the certayne<br /> quantity with powder this deponent knoweth not, and had musketts Carbines<br /> pistolls hatchetts and other Instruments and munition of warr fitting<br /> and requisit for a man of warr of her bulke and burthen, and was<br /> victualled for 6 monthes for 100 men and upward; and had some<br /> merchants goods aboard videlicet about 63 baggs of Anniseeds taken out<br /> of the gundecke of the ''Saint Peter''. and 20 tunnes of beverage wine or thereabouts<br /> taken into her att Naples for the use of Captaine Badi?beyes shipp the ''Paragon''.<br /> and severall goods and necessaries belonging to the sayd Captaine<br /> Swanley and his sayd shipps Companie. and this deponent for his<br /> owne part had aboard her att the tyme of her seizure by the dutch in goods<br /> Clothes moneys and other things being all lost to him by the sayd seizure<br /> to the cleare value of eighty pounds sterling. and moreover XXXX this deponent suffered 16<br /> dayes imprisonment, and was forced to escape in the night att Leghorne and swimme to shoare for<br /> his Liberty, and in his Journey from Leghorne homeward by Land neere<br /> 1000 miles, and expenses in that journey, and losse of tyme all happening<br /> by reason of the sayd seisure, hath suffered further losse and dammage to the<br /> cleare value of thirty pounds sterling and upwards. And saith he knoweth<br /> not the value of the sayd shipp the ''harry Bonadventure'' nor the value of<br /> other mens losses therein and otherwise cannot depose. To the 21th he saith that he verily beleiveth that the sayd Governour of Trapany<br /> might if he would have protected the sayd ''harry Bonadventure'' and the ''Saint Peter''<br /> according to his promise, and that in case he had done his best endeavour therein<br /> the sayd shipps and their Ladeing respectively had not bene taken<br /> by the dutch nor lost to the English but had continued in the possession<br /> of the sayd Captaine Swanley and Companie. And otherwise referring<br /> himselfe to his foregoeing depositions he cannot depose./ To the last he saith his depositions are true. and otherwise cannot depose.
