Transcription The 4th of November 1654. [CENTRE HEADING]The 4th of November 1654. [CENTRE HEADING] The Lord Protector against the ''Golden Tree''}<br /> Simon Peterson master.} ['''?Supert.'''] '''1''' '''Simon Peterson''' of Amsterdam Mariner<br /> master of the said shipp the ''Golden Tree''<br /> aged 35 yeares or thereabouts sworne<br /> before the right worshipfull the Judges of the<br /> high Court of the Admiraltie and<br /> examined upon certaine Interrogatories. To the first second, third, fourth and fifth Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth<br /> that the said shipp the ''Golden Tree'' belongeth to the port of Amsterdam<br /> and that Jaques Lewes, daniel Baldes, John Schadelock, Isaac Baldes,<br /> Nicholas Boyart, Cornelius , John and Simon Eschevin, Abraham<br /> English, William vande Grave and others of Amsterdam and others of Serdam<br /> all dutchmen and subiects of the States of the United Netherlands<br /> were and are the sole owners of the said shipp and constituted this<br /> deponent master of her, and that noe ffrenchman or subiect of the<br /> ffrench kinge had or hath any share therein. And saith shee was<br /> at the time of her seizure laden with salt, which was laden at Bruage<br /> in ffrance by one Mr Avis a ffrenchman, for accompt of<br /> a ffrench companie called the Grand partie, subiects of the kinge<br /> of ffrance, who farme the trade of salt there from their said kinge.<br /> And was for their accompt to be carried and delivered at haver<br /> de Grace, whether the said shipp was going therewith when shee was<br /> seized; and had a Charter partie, and cocket aboard her and his<br /> seabrief, which are yet aboard, saving the Cardinalls let passe<br /> or brief, which hee saith the Captaine hath who made the<br /> seizure, And saith the factor for the Grand Partie at haver<br /> de Grace was to pay the freight for the said salt after 35 gilders per last, and that the lading consisted of 144 lasts of salt, which factor was<br /> named Gillard, and saith hee signed three Charterparties of one tenor for the said<br /> salt for haver de Grace, one whereof hee left at Bruage to be sent<br /> overland and one hee brought with him and hee had one (which is not signed) for Amsterdam<br /> which is yet aboard, and all his other papers saving the said Cardinalls<br /> brief and one Charter partie. And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the sixth hee saith that hee had noe peeces of ordnance aboard<br /> nor other amunition saving 7 muskets and a small peece or two, and that there were belonging<br /> to the said shippp 3 cables and more then halfe a one, three greate<br /> anchors and a warp anchor, but noe money or Jewells saving 30<br /> or 40 gilders in money which belongeth to the owners aforesaid of the<br /> said shipp. And otherwise cannot answer. To the 7th hee saith hee had provisions for his companyes foode<br /> for above 2 monethes, and had none but the shipps provisions./ To the eighth, 9 and 10th hee saith hee came first aboard the said<br /> shipp at Serdam about three yeares since, and otherwise saving his<br /> foregoeing deposition hee cannot depose. To the 11 and 12th negatively. To the 13th hee saith his Stiersman kept a note of the salt as it<br /> came aboard, And otherwise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid. To the last and his examination therein mentioned taken aboard<br /> dated 19 September 1654, hee saith the contents of the said examination<br /> are true (only his shipp is not above 110 lasts burthen),<br /> and that the same is subscribed by this deponent, And otherwise<br /> hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.
