Transcription The premisses hee well knoweth for the reaThe premisses hee well knoweth for the reasons aforesaid, And further cannot<br /> depose. To the 8th article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth, That after the<br /> seizure of the said shipp and her lading by the said Captaine Barnett<br /> and his shipps Companie the 4th day of december old style or thereabouts<br /> the said shipp of warrs Companie or some of them did in a very inhumane<br /> manner abuse the said Master and Companie of the said shipp ''Saint Peter'', setting<br /> poniards and swords to their brests to make them discover what moneys they had<br /> and saith they plundered the said Master and Companie of all their wearing<br /> apparrell linnen and woollen, and tooke monies from the said Master and<br /> from his Stiersman, but of what value the said goods or moneys so plundered<br /> were this deponent saith hee knoweth not, but saith that this deponents owne<br /> cloathes linnen and wooleen, shooes, stockins, bulsack or shipps bedd and other<br /> things plundered from him were really worth one hundred guilders or ten<br /> pounds sterling. And saith that the said man of warrs Companie or some<br /> of them did also after the said seizure take and plunder out of the said<br /> shipp all the potts kettles dishes Compasses sea Cards leades and lines<br /> and all the moveable utensills of and belonging to the said shipp, and one<br /> foresaile, three bonnets, and a top gallant saile, but what the valew of<br /> such goods materialls tackle and furniture so plundered was, this deponent<br /> saith hee canoot estimate; hee further saith, That the said plunder was<br /> by the said man of warrs Companie disposed of and converted to their use<br /> and the said shipp ''Saint Peter'' was afterwards carried by them to Garnsey<br /> where this deponent and the rest of the said shipps Companie were tirned<br /> ashoare having no friends or moneys to support them in a strange place<br /> and saith the said Master was for some time kept Prisoner aboard the<br /> said friggat or man of warr, that the Steeresman of the said shipp<br /> and this deponent were brought into the Castke if Guernezey and were<br /> there examined, but by what authority, hee knoweth not. The<br /> premisses hee deposeth being an Eye Wittnesse of and fellow sufferer in<br /> the same. And further cannot depose:-/ To the last hee saith, his foregoeing deposition is true-/ To the Crosse Interrogatories:-/:- [CENTRE HEADING] To the first hee saith, hee cometh to be a Wittnesse to testify the trueth<br /> of his knowledge in this Cause by the procurement of Mr Vandeputt a<br /> Merchant of this Citie, and hath no part or share in the shipp interrate<br /> nor expecteth any benefitt by the clearing thereof, saving his wages due<br /> and reparation for his losse sustained by the plunder aforesaid, neither doeth<br /> hee expect any recompense, besides his necessary charges, for his deposition in this<br /> Cause. And otherwise negatively./ To the second hee saith hee hath bin about 30. voiages at severall Ports and<br /> places in ffrance, but remembreth not how long hee remained there at each time, And<br /> otherwise negatively.
