Transcription The 28th day of May, Anno domini <u>The 28th day of May, Anno domini <u>1655:-?</u> [CENTRE HEADING] A businesse of Ensurance on the behalfe of}<br /> Luke Lucy Merchant concerning a losse in the}<br /> shipp the ''Mary Pinke''.} Examined upon Interrogatories on the behalfe of<br /> the said Luke Lucy:-? '''Patrick Bett''' of the parish of Barking in London<br /> Mariner late Master of the said shipp ''Mary Pinke''<br /> aged 27. yeares or thereabouts, sworne before the right:-/ [LH MARGIN AT 90 DEGREES]<br /> Worshippfull William Clerke doctor of Lawe one of the Judges of<br /> the high Court of Admiraltie saith and deposeth<br /> as followeth videlicet. To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee well knew the Vessell the ''Mary''<br /> ''Pinke'' interrate, and was Master of and aboard her when shee was last<br /> at Bayon, and from thence was bound with her for the downes, and there<br /> to attend orders from Mr Luke Lucy of London Merchant, or from one<br /> Mr Andrew King the said Luke Lucys Correspondent at deale, and that hee<br /> sett saile from Bayon the 7th of ffebruary last past being Master of the<br /> said shipp as aforesaid./ To the second hee saith, That severall goods and Merchandizes were laden<br /> aboard the said shipp at Bayon to be transported in the same to the<br /> downes as aforesaid for the said Mr Luke Lucy's and Mr Vincent<br /> de la barr of dover their accompt, and saith the goods and merchandizes<br /> there laden aboard the said shipp were fourtie foure tunns and a half of<br /> Tucsan (sic) wines, fortie foure cakes of black Rosin and one hogshead<br /> of Gammons of bacon, all which were there laden by one henry<br /> Theverin Correspondent there to the aid Mr Lucy, and were really ordered<br /> by him to come into the downes to attend order as aforesaid. And otherwise<br /> saving his subsequent depositions hee cannot depose, saying ee knoweth not what the said goods cost To the third hee saith, hee this examinate did signe no reall bills of lading<br /> for any place of reall discharge of the said goods, but signed two fictitious<br /> bills of lading for the delivery of the said goods to one Peter Fouquet the<br /> younger at Saint Valerie en Somme in Picardie, which was so doe by the<br /> advise and direction of the said Henry Theverin to prevent seizure in case<br /> of any encounter with Brest or ffrenchmen of warr, And saith the<br /> paper or bill of lading annexed now shewne unto and perused by this<br /> examinate was and is one of the said colourable bills of lading, subscribed<br /> with the proper handwriting of this examinate to the intent aforesaid. And<br /> further, saving his foregoeing deposition hee cannot depose:/ To the 4th hee saith, the interrate Vincent de La Barr was commonly<br /> accompted a quarter part Owner of the said shipp her tackle and furniture<br /> at the time of her losse and during the said Voiage, but what the said<br /> quarter part was worth hee saith hee cannot depose:/ To the 5th hee saith the aid shipp sett saile with the said goods and<br /> departed with them in safety upon the 7th day of ffebruary last past<br /> from Bayon aforesaid in companie with severall other shipps and Vessells<br /> and that shee was directly bound for the downes as aforesaid but being<br /> passed over the Barr of Bayon in order to their said Voiage in the Bay of Biscay they mett<br /> with very fowle and tempestuous weather in so much that they were<br /> not able to beare saile, but were forced violently a shoar, whereby shee<br /> and her lading perished upon the 8th day of the said moneth, this examinate<br /> (andid moneth, this examinate<br /> (and  +
