Abraham vander Slupp a halfe part owner, Jaques Laport owner of<br />
three sixteenths, Evert Smit owner of three two and thirtieth parts,<br />
John van Amelan owner of three two and thirtieth parts and John<br />
Barker owner of one eighth part of the said shipp, and saith they<br />
have bin soe owners of her for all the time that this deponent hath<br />
bin master of her as aforesaid. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the second hee saith hee this deponent hath alwaies dwelt<br />
at Euchusen the place of his birth and present habitation, and that<br />
his company are all hollanders, and they and hee all subiects of<br />
the States of the Unuted Netherlands, only his pilot is a ffrenchman,<br />
and that his owners are alsoe all subiects of the said States of the<br />
United Netherlands. And saith hee hath made three voyahes with<br />
the said shipp, namely twice to dantzike and nowe this voyage<br />
to Bourdeaux, and that hiee went to Bourdeaux this voyage<br />
in ballast and was nowe commming thence to goe for Saint Malo's (when<br />
hee was taken) for ffrench mens accompt. And otherwise hee cannot<br />
depose.
To the third and fourth Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth that the<br />
said ship the ''Patience'' tooke in her lading at Bourdeaux about a moneth<br />
since namely a cargo of ffrench wines consisting of 190 fats and two<br />
hogsheads of wine, which were laden by monsieur Sages, monsieur<br />
Gowan, monsieur Cornate, and monsieur Constant all ffrenchmen to be<br />
transported to Saint Malo's and there to be delivered according to Charter<br />
partie, and that of the said wines there were three hogsheads laden<br />
for his knowledge; and that over and besides the said wines soe laden<br />
by and for the merchants accompts, hee saith that hee this deponent<br />
and his shipps company hollanders have aboard for their proper accompt<br />
one hogshead of brandewine and three hogsheads of wine, which were<br />
to be disposed of by them and for their owne accompt. And saith the said<br />
merchants that soe laded the said wines were and are subiects of the<br />
ffrench kinge, and that hee never knew them before this voyage, And<br />
otherwise saving what followeth hee saith hee cannot depose.
To the fifth hee saith hee signed the originall of the Charter partie<br />
nowe showne unto him, and the bill of lading for Saint Malo's which<br />
were and are true, and that hee signed<br />
the three other bills (which are for Amsterdam and nowe also showed<br />
unto him) only for colourable bills and thereby to avoid the English and<br />
Ostenders if it might be, such being the desire of the said merchants<br />
and then the other paper being an Invoice or accompt of the wines<br />
was his owne memoriall for the same, and all the said papers were<br />
aboard at the time of the said seizure. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 6th hee saith the said shipp ''Patience'' and her lading were<br />
taken by Captaine Wills at sea about 8 leagues off Roscow, and<br />
the said Captaine showed and read a writiing hee said was his<br />
Commission, having a greate seale with the Impression of a shipp<br />
thereon, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
