Cashier to the said producent, and saw the said letter and order and tooke<br />
a Copie thereof And further cannot depose:-
To the second, and to the first and second schedules annexed and now<br />
showne unto and perused by this examinate hee saith, That the said William<br />
Carey in prosecution of the said producents Order to him sent as aforesaid<br />
did buy and provide for the said producents accompt tenn hogsheads of<br />
french Tobaccoe, and did lade or cause the same to bee laden on board<br />
the said shipp the ''Crowned Oxe'' of flushing at or neare Bourdeaux<br />
to bee therein transported to Morlaix and there to be delivered to the said<br />
producents factors for his proper accompt, the said ffactors being Englishmen<br />
and so well knowne to bee, And saith, That this deponent saw and perused<br />
the said two first schedules after they were sent to the said producent by the<br />
said William Carey, the first being a letter of Advise and the second an<br />
Invoyce or accompt for the said Tobaccoes, both which are subscribed<br />
with the usuall handwriting of the said William Carey, and were and<br />
are true in the Contents thereof, and soe had and done as therein is expressed to<br />
this deponent by his relation as aforesaid, and by his the said producents<br />
Correspondence with the said William Carey well knowing his usuall<br />
firme, And saith this deponent well knoweth for that hee writt the<br />
bills of exchange, and sent them to the said Churchey and Sanders to<br />
be endorsed for the summe of five hundred Crownes payable upon<br />
the accompt aforesaid to the said William Carey, and afterwards<br />
saw the letter of advise whereby it was certified to the said producent, that<br />
the said moneys were actually and really paid. And further cabnnot<br />
depose:/:
To the third article, and third schedule being a bill of ladeing annexed<br />
hee saith That the said bill of lading after the lading of the said<br />
Tobaccoes was sent by the ordinary poast from the said William<br />
Carey to the said producent, as this deponent well knoweth and observed by<br />
the imployment hee hath as aforesaid, and beleeveth the Contents<br />
thereof to bee reall and true and soe had and done as therein is<br />
expressed,. And further cannot depose:-/
To the last hee saith, That the said shipp with the said tenn<br />
hogsheads of Tobaccoe aforesaid were in their Course between Bourdeaux<br />
and Morlaix surprized and taken by two private men of warr of this<br />
Nation whereof one Bradshaw and one Ware were Commanders<br />
whoe as hee beleeveth have converted the same to the use of themselves<br />
and Companie or their Imployers And beleeveth the said Tobaccoes if<br />
they had safely arrived at their designed place, and had been mannaged<br />
to the best advantage of the said producent would have been worth<br />
to him the summe of Three hundred pounds sterling or thereabouts<br />
And further cannot depose:-
