Transcription of the said shipp from dover which was aboof the said shipp from dover which was about fifteene monethes since as<br /> aforesaid, and saith John Claeson was and is<br /> a dantziker by common repute, and a native subiect of that free state<br /> and saith hee never knew him the said Claeson to be master of any other<br /> shipp before the ''Saint John Baptiste''. To the fourth hee saith that at the tiime of the seizure of the said<br /> shipp aforesaid, her company consisted of twelve persons namely<br /> tenn men and two boyes, and that this deponent and her saile maker<br /> called Garret, (who was taken in at Bayon about tenn dayes before<br /> such her seizure) were hollanders and subiects of the said States<br /> of the United Netherlands, and that one of the boyes was ffrench<br /> and borne as hee said at Saint Martins Island neare Rochell, and soe a<br /> native subiect of the ffrench king, and that the other boy was an<br /> English boy of dover, and the rest were commonly reputed Easterlings<br /> and of severall places in the East countrey, as dantzike, Courland<br /> and other places, and none of the company were English saving the said boy of<br /> dover, when the said shipp was soe seized as aforesaid. To the fifth hee saith that the said seizure was made about the<br /> heigth of fiftie degrees on or about the eighteeneth of March<br /> last old stile, at which time the English lands end was about<br /> seaven or eight and twenty leagues from her about North East and<br /> by East, And saith shee then came from Bayon in ffrance (which was her<br /> last port) and that there shee tooke in her lading which was seized<br /> in her (consisting in wines, Rosin, feathers and other goods) at Bayon<br /> aforesaid, and saith the said wines and Rosin as hee beleeveth were of<br /> the growth and make of ffrance, but what countrey man hee was<br /> that laded them or whose subiect, hee saith hee knoweth not. To the last hee saith that the said shipp the ''Saint John Baptist'' when<br /> shee was seized had five guns, seaven muskets and five pistolls<br /> aboard her (as this deponent remembreth the number) tenn halfe pikes<br /> a parcell of owder and bullet, but howe much hee remembreth not<br /> And saith there were connossements aboard which<br /> this deponent sawe, by which the master was to goe with her for<br /> hamborough, but to stop in the downes to receive order from his owners,<br /> And otherwise hee cannot as hee saith depose.
