To the first article hee saith and deposeth that hee verie well knoweth<br />
and for theise seaven yeares last past hath well knowne the producent<br />
doctor ffrancisco Benzi, and bin well acquainted with him at Venice<br />
for the most part of that time, and saith that about foure yeares since<br />
hee this deponent was present in Venice at which time the<br />
two shipps the ''Prince'' arlate whereof Claus Tunnison [?Click] was<br />
master, and the shipp the ''Grimani'' alias the ''Armes of Midenblick''<br />
(John harman lieves master) were riding at the harbour<br />
of Venice, and this deponent was then and there conversant and<br />
acquainted with the said two masters, this deponent then riding<br />
alsoe there with a shipp whereof hee was commander and<br />
wherein the said doctor Banzi (sic) had interest, named the ''Madona''<br />
''de Stellario'' of Venice. And saith hee this deponent was then privie<br />
to and well acquainted with a treatie betweene the said<br />
doctor ffrancisco Benzi and some dutch merchants there resident<br />
about the said doctors buying severall parts in each of the said shipps,<br />
and at length they agreed and contracted therefore, but the particular<br />
parts hee remembreth not, And after hee had bought the said parts<br />
hee contributed towards and otherwise furthered the setting out of the<br />
said two shipps in the service of the Republique of Venice<br />
against the Turkes, in which service they went out of this deponents<br />
sight and knowledge, going out in their company [?XX] the foresaid shipp<br />
