The said shipp the ''Edward'' of London (R … The said shipp the ''Edward'' of London (Roger Yong Master) riding<br />
in the roade of ffiall (one of the Wester Ilands) and having received<br />
two hundred and fiftie pipes of wine aboard her for the Merchants accompt.<br />
there came on board her on the seaven and twentieth of November 1654<br />
(being munday) Mr John Gard merchant residemt on ffiall to whom<br />
the said shipp was consigned to be there laden) and Mr Richard husbands<br />
master of the ''Hopefull Adventure'' of Londonm then alsoe riding in<br />
the said Roade; And they further depose that the said Mr husbands<br />
was desired by the said Mr Gard and by their said master Roger<br />
Young then and there alsoe present, to measure the said shipp the<br />
''Edward'', and to see and take notice thereby what<br />
quantitie of wines shee might carry more, if shee had bin fully<br />
laden there, and that the said Mr husbands thereupon tooke<br />
hoopes and a longer and in the presence and sight of<br />
these deponents measure her, and having soe measured her, hee<br />
then and there in their presence and hearing averred and declared<br />
that shee might stowe and carry in her hould fifteene pipes more<br />
than were then in hould, and hat over and besides the said fifteen pipes, shee might stowe and carry on her gunn<br />
deck before the maine mast 38 pipes of wine more then was<br />
then aboard her, being in all 53 pipes more thanwere laden aboaard<br />
And they further ioyntly depose that having long used seafaring in<br />
merchants service and being well acquainted with the stowage<br />
of goods, they conceive and estimate that the said shipp would well<br />
have received fifteene pipes of wine in hold, and eight and thirtie<br />
on her gun deck before the maine mast, more than were laden<br />
aboard her, and further that after the said measurement there<br />
were noe wines at all laden aboard her for the merchants accompt<br />
soe that shee came to New England soe many pipes as aforesaid short of what<br />
shee could and might have received aboard at ffiall, if the merchants had<br />
supplied the same; And this deponent William Glanville having<br />
nowe seene a certificate of schedule beginning thus. '''whereas Mr'''<br />
'''John Gard et cetera''' and ending thus, '''writing my hand this 27th November'''<br />
'''1654''', and subscribed Richard Husbands, saith and deposeth that<br />
hee was present at ffiall and did see the said Richard husbands<br />
with his owne hand after the said measurement subscribe the said certificate, on the said 27th<br />
of November 1654, which donne, this deponent William Glanvile<br />
then and there put his name thereto with his owne hand writing as<br />
a witnesse as mowe appeareth. And they all ioyntly depose that<br />
in their iudgement the said shipp might well have received and<br />
carried the said fifteene pipes in hold and thirty eight pipes betweene<br />
decks from the maine mast forwards on safely in all probabilitie<br />
to her intended port of Boston in New England over and besides the said two hundred<br />
and fiftie pipes soe as aforesaid laden for the merchants account. The premisses<br />
they depose being of the said shipps company and seeing the said premisses<br />
soe to happen as they have predeposed.
