Transcription of the said time [?or] of the voyage belonof the said time [?or] of the voyage belonging to the said shipp who was named or called<br /> Cornelius, which if there had this deponent being all the while<br /> one of the company must as hee saith needs have knowne it,<br /> nor was there in all that time any mariner of or in the<br /> said shipp called Cornelius, for this deponent hath frequently<br /> heard all the mariners of the said shipp called by their names<br /> and well remembreth that hee never heard any of them called<br /> or named Cornelius. And otherwise hee cannot depose. To the 6th article hee saith and deposeth that the shipp<br /> ''Mercurius'' whereof hance yonge was master and which hee this<br /> deponent well knew, came to Cadiz in the yeare 1652 two monethes<br /> after the ''Salvadors'' being and remayning there, which hee knoweth<br /> being one of the ''Salvadors'' company and being there in her<br /> and seeing the arivall of the ''Mercury'' there soe longe as aforesaid<br /> after the comming thither of the ''Salvador'', And otherwise<br /> hee cannot depose. Upon the seaventh hee is not examined by direction of the producent. To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HADING] To the first hee saith hee is a lubecker borne and hath<br /> dwelt there all his time, and that hee was Carpenter of<br /> the ''Salvador'' for the time hee served in her as aforesaid, And<br /> otherwise negatively, saving as aforesaid. To the second hee saith hee is a shipwright by trade, and<br /> that hee hath bin at Amsterdam about foure yeares since and<br /> staid there about two monethes, and afterwards namely<br /> about 2 yeares and a halfe since hee was there about 6<br /> monethes, in the beginning of which time hee came to the<br /> ''Salvador'', and was never at hamborough, and that hee<br /> never sawe the ''Salvador'' at Amsterdam but when hee came<br /> to serve in her. And otherwise hee cannot answer. To the third hee cannot depose. To the fourth hee cannot depose. To the 5th hee saith that the said shipp went from Amsterdam<br /> in or about October 1651 and arived at Cadiz about three<br /> weekes after, and there staid about three monethes and then<br /> went to Barcelona with souldiers for the king of Spaine,<br /> and about 5 or 6 monethes after shee retourned to Cadiz and<br /> there attended the comming of the West India fleete, and<br /> there staid till her lading and comming away for Ostend the<br /> last voyage in which shee was taken. And otherwise saving as<br /> aforesaid hee cannot depose. To the 6th hee saith hee doubteth not but that it is lawfull<br /> for a sailemaker to be owner of a shipp aswell as another<br /> man if hee have wherewith to build or buy her. And otherwise<br /> hee cannot answer. To the 7th hee saith the said shipps company consisted of 36 men<br /> and boyes or thereabouts and that hee well knewe the names of them<br /> And otherwise hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.
