Transcription then going ashore hee carried and deliverethen going ashore hee carried and delivered the same to Mr Gill<br /> aforesaid, and left the same in his hands, and that from that<br /> time till nowe, this deponent hath not deene it. To the 6th hee saith that the said paper was not by any body showed<br /> or discovered to this deponent, but hee found the same by meere<br /> chance as aforesaid, and otherwise saving as aforesaid hee cannot<br /> answer. To the 7th hee saith hee knoweth not when the said paper was<br /> first sent and exhibited into this Court. To the 8th negatively. To the 9th hee saith that upon finding the said paper hee opened<br /> and perused the same, and often looked into and pondered thereon<br /> in the said two dayes space that hee had it a board, and hee saith the same<br /> (by the said numbers and figures therein) appeared to him to be an accompt<br /> of goods that were in the said shipp. And otherwise hee cannot answer saving<br /> as aforesaid. To the tenth hee saith the said shipp was seized by the said mr<br /> Gill to the use of the Lord Protector and of himselfe the said<br /> fifth of december last or thereabouts. To the 11th hee saith hee doth not knowe in what language the<br /> paper is written. And otherwise referreth himselfe to his foregeing<br /> deposition, and saving the same cannot further depose. To the 12th hee saith hee is very well and infallibly assured that<br /> the said paper was and is the same that was soe found by this<br /> deponent aboard the said shipp, without any alteration or<br /> change whatsoever, hee having nowe very well perused and<br /> considered the same. And otherwise hee referretgh himselfe<br /> to his foregoeing deposition. To the 13th hee saith hee cometh required by the said mr Gill<br /> to testifie the truth in this businesse, and that the said mr<br /> Gill being absent when this deponent came from Bristoll, mr<br /> Showell Collector of the Customes there, tooke order for<br /> the bearing of this deponents chardges; and saith hee is usually<br /> imployed to waite aboard shipps in kings roade in the service<br /> of the State, and came nowe from on board and that is there<br /> remayning. And that hee doth not expect ought but his<br /> chardges and allowance for his time spent; [?XXXX] the said shipp<br /> should be condemned. To the last hee saith the said shipp was and had bin about a weeke<br /> in the possession of the officers of the Commonwealth when this<br /> deponent soe found the said paper in [?eie].
