Transcription To the second hee saith and deposeth that To the second hee saith and deposeth that on or about the foure<br /> and twentieth day of the moneth of March last past the said Isaac<br /> Woodgreene and companie in the said shipp the ''African'' on the high and<br /> open seas neare the Ile of Scio met with and by vertue of the<br /> said Commission seized and tooke a certaine ffrench prize or shipp<br /> named the ''Madame Guardiana'' and her lading. And that after the<br /> said seizure the said Captaine Woodgreene was for provision of<br /> victuall and for other occasions constrained to carry the said shipp<br /> the ''Madame Guardiana'' and her lading to Smirna, where her french<br /> Captaine and company got ashore, and the ffrench Consull there<br /> shipped them thence for ffrance, soe that the said Captaine Woodgreene<br /> could not (thouh hee much desired and endeavoured it) bringe any<br /> of them home for England. All which hee knoweth being present<br /> and seeing the premisses soe dronne. And otherwise hee cannot<br /> depose. To the third article hee saith and deposeth that after the said<br /> seizure, this deponent heard severall of the ffrench companie<br /> of the ''Madame Guardiana'', say and acknowledge that the said<br /> shipp the ''Madame Guardiana'' and her lading came from<br /> Marseilla and that they belonged to ffrench subiects of the<br /> ffrench king at the time of the seizure. To the first second and third articles hee saith and deposeth That within<br /> the time arlate Captaine Isaac Woodgreene in the shipp the ''Affrican''<br /> went out to sea in a warlike designe against the dutch and ffrench<br /> by vertue of a Commission in that behalfe obtained under the greate<br /> seale of this Court by henry hunt, Thomas Barnardiston and<br /> William Love, setters out and Imployers of the said shipp the ''Affriacn''<br /> wherein this deponent went a merchant passenger; And saith that<br /> comming neare the Ile of Scio, on the high and open seas, the said<br /> Captaine Woodgreene and companie in the said shipp the ''Affrican''<br /> mett with and by vertue of the said Commission set upon and<br /> seized a certaine ffrench shipp named the ''Madame Guardiana''<br /> with her lading, and having soe seized her hee was constrained<br /> for the providing of victualls and upon other occasions to carry her<br /> to Smyrna, where the said prizes ffrench company got ashore<br /> and nome of them could be recovered to be brought home for England<br /> the ffrench Consull there sending them aboard other ffrench vessells<br /> bound for ffrance. And saith that after the said seizure hee this<br /> deponent heard some of the said prize her company, ffrench men,<br /> say and acknowledge that the said shipp and lading appertained to<br /> ffrench subiects of the ffrench kinge, and that they came from<br /> Marseille.
