''Rosario Saint Gonsalvo'' aged 60, yeares or there=<br />
abouts a Wittnesse produced sworne and examined<br />
saith as followeth to witt./
To the first Article of the said Allegation hee saith, That hee<br />
well knoweth That in the yeares of our Lord 1655: 1656. and<br />
1657 arlate, and in the moneths therein respectively concurring<br />
and for some time before and since there was and is a<br />
certaine Companie of Merchants called or knowne by the<br />
name of the Brazile Companie, who were and are all of<br />
them Subiects of the Crowne of Portugall and for and as<br />
such commonly accompted, and who doe for the most part live<br />
and reside in the City of Lisbone or other places nere<br />
thereunto adjacent, and who were and are a Companie con=<br />
=stituted and made by authority of the now king or late king<br />
of Portugall to trade to and from the Brazeele for sugars<br />
and other Merchandises, and the said Companie hath for<br />
severall yeares past and especially in the yeares before particulaized<br />
and the moneths therein respectively concurring and since<br />
exercised used and driven and doe exercise use and drive<br />
a great trade from Lisbone to Brazeel with Merchandises, and<br />
from Brazeele to Lisbone and others the dominions of the<br />
king of Portugall for sugars and other merchandises, and to<br />
that purpose for all the time aforesaid the said Companie had<br />
and hath their ffactors and Agents resident at the Bahia<br />
ffernambuco and other parts in Brazeele. All which the<br />
premisses hee knoweth, by reason that hee this deponent by the<br />
space of five yeares Last past hath had and hold his settled<br />
residence at and in the said Citie of Lisbone, and hath<br />
in the quality of a master of a shipp performed in that<br />
time severall voyages to and from Lisbone and Brazeele<br />
aforesaid, and thereby is well assured of the trueth of this<br />
his deposition in all the particulars thereof. And more saith<br />
not to this Article./
