Transcription The 13th of June 1659. The Brazill CompanThe 13th of June 1659. The Brazill Company of Portugall against}<br /> 200 Quintalls of Brazil Wood or}<br /> thereabouts brought to this port}<br /> in the ''Jonathan and Abigail''}<br /> (Thomas Morley Master) and against}<br /> John Thacker}<br /> Suckley Cheeke} '''Rp.''' Examined upon the Allegation given<br /> in by Mr Suckley '''Thomas Morley''' Master of<br /> the ship the ''Jonathan and Abigail''<br /> aged 48 yeeres or thereabouts<br /> sworne and Examined./: To the first article of the said Allon hee saith and Deposeth<br /> that the parcell of Brazil wood arlate (being two Hundred Kintalls, or therabouts<br /> which was brought to this Port in the said ship the ''Jonathan''<br /> ''and Abigail'', as Delivered to this Deponent out of a yard at<br /> Lisbone, which yard did belong to the Portugall East India Company as this Deponent<br /> was then and there Credibly Informed and soe hee verily beleeveth<br /> And saith that one John Roles, a Portugueze Broker, whom<br /> this Deponent Imployed in procuring of goods to lade onboard the said<br /> ship upon freight did procure all the said Brazill Wood, and the said Roles<br /> hath often times told this Deponent, about the time of the Lading thereof that the said Wood was to be<br /> transported in the said Ship to London for the Account of the<br /> Portugall Brazil Company, and soe this Deponent verily beleeveth it was,<br /> And saith that the said Roles did procure other goods for this<br /> Deponent the said time of this Deponents being there, and saith there<br /> was an Agreement made amongst divers of the Merchants that<br /> laded goods in the said Ship that there should be<br /> a Teston upon each Chest of Sugar, and two Ryalls upon<br /> each pipe of Oyle, and after that proportion, for other goods<br /> to be Given as a Gratuity to the Convoy that stayed there for<br /> the ''Jonathan and Abigail'', and other English ships then there<br /> And this Deponent Demanded of the said Roles the like rates<br /> for the said Brazill Wood and the other goods that hee<br /> procured, and that were laden on board the said Ship, But for<br /> the said 200 Quintalls of Brazil Wood the said Roles refused<br /> to allow any thing. telling this Deponent that the same did belong<br /> to the Brazil Company, and they being a Joint Company<br /> would beare their owne Adventures or to that effect, But<br /> for the other goods that the sd Roles procured, the said Roles allowed the rates<br /> aforesaid, to this Deponent for the said Convoy, And soe much this<br /> Deponent beleeveth hee hath acknowledged to severall persons<br /> The foresaid Premises hee deposeth, being Master of the said<br /> ship aforesaid And further Cannot depose./.
