Transcription and therewith comming upon the ''Reformatiand therewith comming upon the ''Reformationes'' quaarter gave aher a broad side<br /> and a volley of small shott, and shee plied upon her and continued shooting<br /> untill the ''Reformations'' maine mast and [?MXXX] mast were shott by the board<br /> and then some of the other shipps of the ''Marias'' company (which albeit they<br /> shott on the ''Reformation'' came not up to board her untill her said maine mast<br /> and [?misur] mast were by the board) came up and board her, and soe by<br /> the said shipp ''Santa Maria'' and other shipps of her company the said<br /> shipp the ''Reformation'' with all her lading of silkesm hrogeran yarne<br /> gawles, cottons, and other such merchandizes comming from Scanderoon, were seized<br /> and taken, and the owners deprived thereof, of this deponents sight and knowledge<br /> being aboard and Purser of her, and saith that hee well knoweth the owners<br /> of the said shipp ''Reformation'' and of her said lading, who hee saith were<br /> and are all English men merchants and subiects of the kingdome<br /> of England, and were and are by name Sir William Vincent knight, William<br /> Dennis Henry Spurstow and others their company, by whom hee saith the<br /> said shipp ''Reformation'' was set out from this port of London: And<br /> lastly that the said shipp ''Santa Maria'' (which this deponent and others of the company<br /> of the ''Reformation'' tooke and beleeved upon her approach to be<br /> a shipp of Holland, for soe her company said shee was) was of the<br /> burthen of betwixt three hundred and fiftie and foure hundred tuns and<br /> had thirtie peeces of ordnance or upwards aboard, And being asked of the valew<br /> of the said shipp ''Reformation'' and of her said lading soe seized, hee saith<br /> that hee had good knowledge thereof being Purser as aforesaid, and tooke<br /> account and entrie of the same was it was put aboard, and that in<br /> his estimation the said shipp and lading were of the valew of<br /> fourscore thousand pounds sterling. And saith that as hee<br /> hath heard it credibly affirmed and as hee beleeveth the said<br /> shipp ''ffreetrade'' and her lading (which consisted in silkes, gawles cotton<br /> yarne and other goods) were worth betwixt twenty and thirtie thousand<br /> pounds sterling And further deposeth mot saving that the ''Santa Maria''<br /> was then of the burthen in his estimation of betwixt three hundred and<br /> sixtie and foure hundred tonnes, and had two<br /> and thirtie or foure and thirtie peeces of ordnance aboard her, and saving that<br /> Mr Allen and Mr Gregory of London merchants and company Englishmen and<br /> subiects of this kingdome are commonly said to be and are esteemed owners of<br /> the ''freetrades'' lading and freighters of the vessell herselfe.
