aboard her in order to proceede on the sayd voyage for Brazeele<br />
the sayd humfrey fosse the boatswaine an severall others<br />
of the sayd shipps company did refuse to take the sayd goods aboard<br />
soe that the boates that brought them were fayne to depart with<br />
them from the shipps side And afterwards the sayd Ewens comming<br />
aboard did upon the open deck in presence of this deponent and the<br />
rest of the shipps Company the better to perswade the shipps<br />
Company to goe for Brazeele freely offer to advance the<br />
wages of the Mariners of the sayd shipp and to add to the same<br />
five shillings in the pound per month for every of their<br />
wages over and above the wages that they were to receive<br />
by his agreement made with them in England Which proposaall<br />
of addition of five shillings in the pound per month advance of<br />
wages was (as hee beleeveth) accepted of by the sayd fosse<br />
Tucker and howgate and the rest of the Mariners of the sayd shipp<br />
for that upon payment of eight months pay according to the<br />
first agreement made in England and promisse of<br />
payment of that addition of five shillings in the pound per month<br />
advance they did proceede upon the sayd voyage for Brazeele<br />
and after the sayd Contract did serve in the sayd shipp and goe<br />
in her to Brazeele and this deponent came thence back in the ''Scipio''<br />
to Lisbone but the sayd fosse and howgate and divers others of the ''Scipio'' her<br />
company and also the sayd Thomas Ewens the Master of her<br />
were by Portugeses taken from aboard the ''Scipio'' and put aboard<br />
other Portugese shipps to come in them back for Lisbon and Portugeses<br />
put in their stead to come for Lisbon in the ''Scipio'', which hee saith<br />
hee beleeveth the Portugeses did only for the better securing their<br />
goods that if the English in their service had any designe to goe away with their<br />
shipps and the goods laden aboard them they might thereby be prevented<br />
for that after the ''Scipio'' came to Lisbon the Portugeses suffered the<br />
''Scipio'' her company to returne aboard her And hee saith that the<br />
sayd Mariners were after the sayd new contract in performing the sayd voyage from Lisbone<br />
to Brazeele and from Brazeele back to Lisbone<br />
and discharge of their Ladeing at<br />
Brazeele and ?paid ?thereof at Lisbone about seaventeene or eighteene moneths and<br />
then as soone as they could hee this deponent and the sayd fosse having<br />
gotten passage for England in fflemish vessells came from<br />
Lisbon for England And further hee cannot depose/
To the 8th and 9th hee saith hee referreth him selfe to the<br />
Registry of this Court and to the lawe and further cannot depose/
To the 10th hee saith the arlate Thomas Ewens was and is as hee<br />
beleeveth a subiect of this Commonwealth and subiect to the authorty<br />
of this Court and further hee cannot depose
To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true/

To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee cannot answere otherwise than negatively<br />
for the reason in his foregoeing deposition declared./
