IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Gamaliel Nightingale being in perfect health both of boy and minde for which the Almighty bee praised doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament revoking all former Will smade by mee bequeathing my body to the Earth, and my Soule to the God that gave itt as concerneing my estate my debts being paid I give and bequeath as follows

ITEM I doe give and bequeath to my brother in Lawe M:r ffrancis Tod and to my sister Theodoria his wife two hundred pounds sterling money

ITEM I doe give and bequeath to my brother in Lawe M:r Edward Mitchell of Newport Pond in Essex twenty pounds besides the free enjoyment of those Lands and Tenem:ts hee hath purchased for mee att Newport Ponmd dureing his naturall life

ITEM I doe give to my cozen Jane Nightingale two hundred pounds sterling money to her and the heyres of her body

ITEM I doe give and bequeth to my good ffreind S:r Richard Onslow M:rs Alexander Jacob M:r William Harvey of Aleppo ffifty pounds sterling to each of them

ITEM I doe give to John Chowne of Sussex and his heyres brother of Henry and BrXX Chowne of the said County XXX the summe of ffive hundred pounds sterling money I say 500:li to bee paid him after my estate comes in after my debts are pd

ITEM I doe give M:r Robert Wakeman of Aleppo and M:r William Pearle of said place One hundred Lyon Dollars each

ITEM I doe give to Sig:r ffrancesco Bourhois One Thousand Lyon Dollars I say one thousand Lyon Dollars

ITM I doe give the poore of Newport Pond in Essex tenn pounds To the poore of Langley tenn pounds sterlin and to the poore of Depden ffive pounds starlin

ITEM I doe appoint Edward Nightingale sonn of Geofrey Nightingale[1] of Kneesworth in the County of cambridge Executor of this my last Will and Testament bequeathing to him (after my debts and legacies are paid) and the Heyres Males of his body laywfully begotten

The remainder of my estate whether in goods lands moneys leases debts in what manner soever of right belonging to mee, that is to say, the moneys to bee layd out in Lands, or

otherwise to be invested or layd out in the joynt stocke of the East Indian Company the Royall Affrican Company or the Company of Hudsons bay parte in each of them So that my Executor Edward Nightingale aforesaid his and theire heyres may have the income thereof only but noe power to sell or dispose and so likewise of my lands. And in case hee should not have any Heyres Male lawfully begotten Then the estate aforesaid shall descend upon the eldest daughter of the said Edward Nightingale (if unmarried or betrothed unto any) Provided shee marries into the ffamily of S:r Thomas Nightingale of Langley or M:r Geofry Nightingale late of London, And if the eldest daughter should bee married or contracted, Then to the second and soe to the third x:e. And if such marriage should not succed Then after the decease of Edward Nightingale the estate both of lands moneys and whatsoever else appertaining thereto shall descend to the next Heyre according to Lawe, and soe forward after the nature of Intailes And if any of the aforesaid Companies should breake upp or withdraw theire stocke whatever may bee therein shall bee imployed in Land for benefitt of the succeeding Heyre And I doe most humbly request the right Worp:ll S:r Richard Onslow M:r Alexander Jacob and M:r William Harvey will take the trouble to call in the estate, and after my debts and legacies are paid Invest the Remainder, So as my desure may bee complyed with This being what conceive necessary in this case desire itt may bee accepted for my last Will and Testament though itt may not bee drawne in that method or forme and in soe proper words as ought to bee, haveing signed and sealed itt, this ffifth day of Aprill: 1693: at Gangia in the Empire of Persia and the Province of Carrabogg:

WEE WHOSE NAMES ARE SUBSCRIBED English merchants resident in the Citty of Aleppo, being through long practice perfectly acquainted with the handwriting of the deced Testator Gamaliel Nightingale Esq:r late Consull of this place doe attest the Originall Will sealed with the same seale which hee henally used here to bee according to the best of our knowledge and beleife all written with his owne hand and that this is a true copy thereof
