Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Forty-two year old William Whitfeild deposed on Nov 24th 1657 in the High Court of Admiralty.[1] He was examined on a libel in the case of "Paine and company against Cooke".[2]
William Whitfeild stated that he knew Joseph Paine, the master of the ship the William Bonadventure, and that the Bonadventure had ridden in the River Thames over against Bell wharf for a month or more. This "hee knoweth for that hee this deponent had laine there for the most part of that time in the shipp the Saint Salvador, to which hee belonged and which lay next on the off aside of the William Bonadventure".[3]
